    Hear exciting stories from Allen citizens who immigrated to America from India and Haiti with Farida Shipchandler and Jacques Medina Jean. Farida immigrated to America in 1968. She will share her stories of blending two cultures and pursuing the American Dream. Jacques is a social entrepreneur and is the founder of Universal Learning Center, a US based not-for-profit organization focused on providing educations resources and learning opportunities for people living in developing countries. An ALLen Reads program.

  1. "Marie Renfro: Then and Now" Art Exhibit

    Color and creativity best describe Marie Renfro's paintings in oil or acrylic. A very versatile artist, Marie enjoys using various media to express her emotional response to a subject. Her work has received numerous outstanding awards and is included in major collections. She holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Texas Woman's University in Denton and has studied in several European countries. Exhibited artwork can be purchased at the gallery, along with books by Amanda Dunbar and Jaqcueline Woodson.
