Allen was recently recognized by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society with the Media Excellence and Outstanding Individual Service awards.
Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS) awarded the Media Excellence Award to Allen's Parks and Recreation Department and Allen City Television for the Play Music Video and Rec X Television Series. This award recognizes parks and recreation agencies and/or media outlets that provide exemplary coverage of parks and recreation programs, events, programs, facilities or issues. The program features international sensation, Flula, and met the city’s goal to offer something new and fun to communicate 2013’s Parks and Recreation Month theme encapsulated in the word “play”.

TRAPS also recognized Allen resident Jim Waldbauer with the Outstanding Individual Service Award for 2014. Waldbauer, who was nominated by the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department and recently recognized by Allen City Council, has volunteered for Allen for over twenty years. He has served on the Parks and Recreation Board and led the establishment of the Allen Parks Foundation. His dedication and service to the community has contributed greatly to the success of Allen's Parks and Recreation Department.
