[ARCHIVED] Christmas Tree Composting Program

After all the presents are gone and preparations are made for the New Year, remember - the City of Allen wants your Christmas tree!

By City Ordinance #1216-1-94, all yard trimmings are composted for reuse; therefore natural and live Christmas trees are prohibited from being placed in your trash or recycle containers. As part of the City wide composting program, the City of Allen is offering a collection of natural Christmas trees for residents of Allen and we would like to invite you to participate in this FREE program.

Trees must be smaller than six (6) feet OR cut into pieces smaller than six (6) feet in order to be collected. The City of Allen will not accept any flocked trees for composting. Trees must have all ornaments, lights, decorations and base stations removed prior to collection. Trees should be set out on the resident’s normal trash day and will be accepted up to two (2) weeks after the Christmas holiday. The final day for collection of Christmas trees will be Friday, January 10.

Flocked trees cannot be composted and must be transported to the Custer Road Transfer Station located at 9901 Custer Rd, (phone: 972.727.6341) for disposal. Residents can present current water bill or Driver’s License as proof of residency.

For any questions, please call the City of Allen, Waste Services Division at 214-509-4551. For any after-hours emergencies, please call the Stacy Road Pump Station at 214-509-4530.
