In cases of icy road conditions, please note sanding procedures for city roadways.
- The City of Allen Community Services Department has three dump trucks available to drop a mixture of sand and “environmentally friendly” ice melt mixture.
- Sanding priority is given to bridge overpasses, major street intersections, hills and inclines on major streets (like McDermott/Bethany/Exchange Parkway), and critical slick spots identified by the Police Department Traffic Division for sanding.
- Due to limited resources, mixture is not applied to all roads or residential streets. Also, the City does not sand TXDOT roadways such as US 75 through Allen and Stacy Road, east of Greenville.
City crews will treat major streets and intersections as needed around the clock in accordance with identified priorities until the severe weather event subsides.
Also, residents are reminded to safeguard water pipes during freezing temperatures. The North Texas Municipal Water District has provided several tips on their website to help prevent broken pipes and water leaks outside the home or business. For assistance in shutting off water due to a broken pipe or water or sewer line issue, call 214.509.4530 (24-hour emergency response available).
