Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell assumes a new regional leadership role as the president of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Executive Board. He was elected at the annual NCTCOG meeting on June 14.
NCTCOG's Executive Board, composed of 13 locally elected officials, and one ex-officio non-voting member of the legislature, is the policy-making body for all activities undertaken by the Council of Governments, including program activities and decisions, regional plans, and fiscal and budgetary policies.
Serving a 16-county region of North Central Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth, NCTCOG oversees a variety of regional initiatives that provide mutual benefit and address common needs for the local governments it serves. Program areas include community services, emergency preparedness, environment and development, research and information services, transportation, and workforce development.
Terrell has served NCTCOG in the capacity of vice president during 2012-13 and secretary during 2011-2012. He has been a member of the executive board since 2009 and a voting representative since 2000. In other positions, he has served on the North Texas Commission Board of Directors since 2011 and as a voting representative on the Dallas Regional Mobility Committee since 2008. Terrell was appointed as mayor to the City of Allen in 1997 and was reelected in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011.
