JULY 12, 2022 - Allen Police Department will enter a five-year agreement with Motorola Solutions to lease 162 body-worn cameras, including associated equipment and services, in the amount of $596,888.
The department purchased new body-worn cameras in 2017. The life expectancy for these cameras is approximately three years, and the department is beginning to experience equipment failures due to the age of the camera equipment.
Leasing new cameras is the most financially responsible replacement of the existing cameras. These new cameras are more technologically advanced, allowing officers to change the batteries when they become low. In the new agreement with Motorola, all body-worn cameras will be replaced one time during the contract.
