[ARCHIVED] Fostering community spirit through public art

The Public Art Committee presented its annual report to City Council during the July 12 meeting.

The committee guided the completion of two large public art projects of the past year:

  • All In – interactive, light-based art installation at Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium that reacts to the number of people in the facility (pictured below)Floor view of 'All In' with windows off to right side

Over the next year, the committee will be selecting an artist and installing art for the Stephen G. Terrell Trail Enhancement Project and making updates to the Map Art Mobile Guide and Public Art Master Plan. The committee will also be considering public art projects related to the upcoming Allen Dog Park, the Library expansion, Molsen Farm and other potential locations identified by the 2016 Public Art Master Plan.

During the presentation, Chair Jane Bennett highlighted the impact this committee has on the Allen community including fostering community spirit and building character and identity for the city and its special places.
