Keep Allen Beautiful has been awarded a Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grant in the amount of $5,000 to be used toward the purchase of a greenhouse for the Urban Forestry Division of Allen Parks and Recreation Department. The new greenhouse structure which is scheduled for installation this summer on the Molsen Farm site will be used to propagate plants for the city's public spaces.
Keep Allen Beautiful received one of only 75 merit-based grants awarded nationally and one of only four awarded in Texas to support grassroots community improvement projects including community gardens, tree plantings, litter and debris cleanups, recycling programs, park and playground restorations and beautification efforts.
The Urban Forestry Division maintains the City’s urban forest as well as all public park and open space landscape beds. They are responsible for landscape maintenance of 63 public sites totaling 876 maintained public acres, with an additional 225 undeveloped acres to be landscaped and maintained.
