Allen City Council approved design contracts at the Aug. 24 Council Meeting for new trail connectivity and features along Rowlett Creek Trail.
Trail connectivity is the latest project underway for Rowlett Creek. In July, Council approved an extension on the southern part of the trail which will connect Spirit Park in Allen to Bob Woodruff Park in Plano.
Contracts are for design and master plan only. Construction will begin later following a competitive bidding process.
Rowlett Creek Trailhead design
Located along Eugene McDermott Park, this 105-acre space will include amenities such as leisure seating and shade, restroom facilities, native plants and a 50-space parking lot. Council approved a design contract with Valley Quest Design in the amount of $102,060. The design will follow the City of Allen Trails and Bikeways Master Plan as well as the Conservation Easement Agreement on the land.
Molsen Farm Master Plan and trail connection design
Centered on preserving Allen’s natural open spaces, this Master Plan update covers a one-half mile section of Rowlett Creek Trail through Molsen Farm. The Plan also includes the addition of a 14-acre area along Greenvile Avenue, and accounts for new possibilities for trail connectivity and amenities. Council approved a design contract with Parkhill / Schrickel Rollins in the amount of $222,190. Molsen Farm is part of the original Allen Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan.
