At the July 13 Council meeting, two City employees received Shining Star awards for their heroic efforts in saving the lives of two children.

Mayor Fulk presented the awards in the presence of Allen Parks and Recreation leadership and about a dozen City lifeguards.

Stacy Adams, Administrative Assistant
Stacey was volunteering at the Summer Sounds concert series in June when she noticed an 18-month-old child run into the pond on the property. Without even stopping to remove her shoes, Stacey jumped into the pond to pull the child from the water and make sure he was ok. The little boy was returned to his mother, who was there with a younger child and unable to react quickly at the time of the incident.

Jamie Gross, Lifeguard
Certified as a lifeguard in February, Jamie was on vacation in Florida when she witnessed a 5-year-old child fall into a pool, hit their head and become unresponsive in the water. With only three months of lifeguard experience, Jamie acted quickly. She performed an inline stabilization to protect the child’s spinal cord while waiting for paramedics to arrive and carefully remove the child from the water.

Thank you, Stacey and Jaime, for your selfless bravery!
