Allen City Council will welcome its newest member on Tuesday, May 11 as Daren Meis replaces outgoing councilmember Kurt Kizer in Place No. 1.
Citizens are invited to a public reception before Tuesday’s meeting to welcome Meis and honor Kizer for his 12 years of service on City Council. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Allen City Hall (305 Century Parkway). A program recognizing Meis and Kizer will begin at 6 p.m.
Meis has lived in Allen since 2015. He is a former board member with the Collin County Conservative Republicans and volunteers flying time with Challenge Air for Kids.
Kizer was first elected in 2012 and has served as a member of the Finance/Audit Committee and as a council liaison for the Planning and Zoning Commission and Public Art Committee. Before becoming a councilmember, he was part of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board (2001-02), the Economic Development Corporation (2002-09), and the Planning and Zoning Commission (2010-12).
A runoff election for Council Place Nos. 3 and 5 will take place on Saturday, June 5. Early voting begins June 1. Details.
