This month Allen City Council authorized a $190,000 professional services agreement for the restoration design of Heritage Village. The design is the first step in the latest phase of site improvements.

Allen Heritage Village was founded in the late 1990s with the move of the St. Mary Baptist Church to what was then the east end of St. Mary Drive. In 2002, several structures from around Allen were moved to the Heritage Village. With funding from the Allen Community Development Corporation, the Village received site improvements and structure restoration projects in 2007 and 2014.

The Mayor's Heritage Village Steering Committee was formed in 2019 to guide the remaining restoration and site work at Heritage Village. The scope of work includes hiring a preservation architect to design and prepare plans for the restoration of the Farm House, the tool shed and the tenant house. Also included is a design for the complete replication of the former barn which was demolished several years ago. Site improvements include additional pedestrian pavement, site furniture, fencing, landscaping and irrigation, signage, and additional security measures for primary structures.

The total cost for the Heritage Village restoration is estimated at $2,205,058.
