[ARCHIVED] Fire at Custer Road Transfer Station causing delays

Pile of loose brush arranged on curb

North Texas Municipal Water District’s Transfer Station on Custer Road is currently dealing with a fire in its yard waste collection area. Plano Fire Department is on scene and is working to manage the fire. The yard waste and brush drop off areas are currently closed.

The Custer Road Transfer Station is still open for residential drop off of excess household wastes and commercial vehicles. Disposal of yard waste (which is typically free at Custer Road) will incur charges for now, as yard waste must be put in the trash disposal pits instead of the usual yard waste area. Yard waste delivered by residents to any other NTMWD facility will be charged the posted gate rate as usual.

Wait times at the Custer Road Transfer Station may be long due to the fire, the large amount of smoke and the planned installation of a new vehicle scale. We recommend that residents use DIY disposal options at other NTMWD facilities today instead. See list: https://www.cityofallen.org/1390/Do-It-Yourself-Disposal

We do not expect any delay in residential yard waste collections as CWD has made plans to take yard waste to another location for composting.
