April 8, 2021 is “Ebenezer Allen Day.” Mayor Fulk marked the occasion with a proclamation honoring the 278th birthday of the city’s namesake.
Ebenezer Allen served as the Republic of Texas’ Attorney General and interim Secretary of State. Allen worked with the Republic of Texas’ President Anson Jones in the annexation of Texas to the United States of America.
Ebenezer also obtained the charter for the Galveston and Red River Railway Company, later known as the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. The first locomotive of the Company was named after him, as was the first station at present-day Allen.
Allen City Council joins Allen Heritage Guild in celebrating its namesake and his role in establishing our community.
