September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Allen Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs for all ages, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.

Libraries offer a variety of informational and engaging programs, helping transform lives and communities through education. At Allen Public Library, you’ll find a wide variety of educational resources and activities including story times, book clubs, on stage performances, and STEM programs.

“Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children,” said Claudia Wayland, Youth Services Manager. “We have pivoted the way we present our programs and live auditoriums shows to a virtual setting to better serve students of all ages and backgrounds, and we have added new services including curbside pickup, book bundles and take & make kits.”

Allen Public Library, along with libraries everywhere, continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. Texas residents at least five years or older qualify for a free card at Allen Public Library. To learn more about the library’s resources and programs, please visit AllenLibrary.org

Sign up for a library card today.

Please note, the online form provides a temporary number that can be used to access eBooks and eAudiobooks.  In order to checkout physical items, you must come into the library and pickup your permanent library card.
