Allen Golf Course Joins Environmental Program

The Courses at Watters Creek

The City of Allen’s golf course, The Courses at Watters Creek, is increasing its efforts to protect the local environment while preserving golf’s natural heritage.

The Courses at Watters Creek has become a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf, which is administered by Audubon International, an organization whose mission is to create environmentally sustainable environments.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf helps golf courses self-identify feasible opportunities through grounds maintenance to further protect the local environment.

Becoming a member of this program will help golf course staff identify opportunities to enhance the valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that The Courses at Watters Creek provides to the community, while improving efficiency and synergy between the environment and golf course operations.

The six areas where Audubon International focuses on helping golf courses are environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, and outreach and education.

The Courses at Watters Creek is working toward receiving the Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation, which is awarded by Audubon International after satisfying a plan to help the golf course meet environmental standards in each of the six areas based on the golf course’s unique setting, goals, staff, budget and time.

The process to receive the Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation includes developing and implementing the environmental management plan, document evidence of results and host Audubon International staff on a site visit.

The Courses at Watters Creek offers the perfect blend of multiple courses all in one place. Between The Traditions Course (18 holes), The Players Course (9 holes) and The Futures Course (6 holes), there’s a unique experience for every golfer.
