Allen residents can take advantage of new resources to help safeguard their property against rodents.

The Environmental Health Division has added information on prevention, treatment and disposal on its website. These details can help homeowners eliminate common rodent magnets such as pet food, bird seed, standing water and overgrown landscaping.

The City of Allen does not exterminate or treat for rodents on private property. Placing baits or traps in public areas such as greenbelts or parks drives rodents onto private property and puts other wildlife at risk. However, Allen’s Code Enforcement Division will investigate piles of trash, high weeds or other areas that may harbor rodents. Citizens may report these code enforcement concerns using the Online Help Desk or MyAllen App for iOS or Google devices.

Homeowners should consult a licensed pest control company about treating private property.
