If your home, vehicle or other property is damaged due to recent wind or hail, keep these things in mind.

  • You do not need to file a police report to process a hail damage claim. If your vehicle is damaged, call your insurance company.
  • Unscrupulous contractors often take advantage of property owners following severe weather. The Texas Attorney General reminds storm victims to be wary of contractors from out of the area, avoid rushing into a contract, ask for references and check with the Better Business Bureau to ensure they work with someone trustworthy. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, contact the Office of the Attorney General's toll-free complaint line at 800.621.0508 or file a complaint at texasattorneygeneral.gov.
  • In Allen, door-to-door solicitors must hold a solicitor's permit. Approved solicitors will display a badge and paper permit issued by the City of Allen. If your are contacted by a solicitor without the appropriate permit, call the Allen Police Department non-emergency line at 214.509.4321.
  • Submit the proper paperwork before making any repairs to your property. Repairs to roofs, fences or other parts of your property may require completion of a construction packet, homeowner's affadavit or contractor registration. See full list of forms.
  • 9-1-1 services should be used for emergencies only: to save a life, stop a crime or report a fire. For non-emergencies in Allen, call 214.509.4321 to reach our non-emergency dispatch.
