Update (August 16, 2018): The tree has been removed.
----------
A lacebark elm tree located in front of the entrance to Allen Public Library off N. Allen Drive has died from cotton root rot, which is a common disease for lacebark elms, and is scheduled to be removed on August 16 by City of Allen Urban Forestry staff.
The entire removal process will only take a few hours, beginning in the morning with an expected finish around 10 a.m. the same day.
During the removal, the library’s front drop-off lane will be closed along with possibly a portion of northbound N. Allen Drive next to the library. The main entrance to the library will remain unaffected and open throughout the entire process; however, patrons are encouraged to use the library's north or east entrances.
