Grant Funding to Assist Allen Homeowners

Beginning in October, over $360,000 of federal funds will be available to qualifying Allen homeowners.

These repair funds are part of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD awards CDBG funds to thousands of communities each year to preserve and expand the supply of decent, safe, and affordable housing through the rehabilitation of existing residential property.

CDBG funds are heavily regulated and the City of Allen takes great care to ensure the funds go to where they are needed most.

Allen homeowners may apply for up to $25,000 for home improvements to ensure compliance with health and safety codes. Some of the repairs made possible by this funding over the past year include siding replacement, foundation repairs and plumbing repairs.

To qualify for home improvement funding, homeowners must meet income guidelines and reside within one of Allen’s five target neighborhoods: Collin Square, Hillside Village, Oak Hill, Timberbend or Windridge Estates.

HUD also provides funds for urgent repairs to homeowners citywide. These urgent repairs must address an immediate risk to homeowners’ health and safety like HVAC replacement and water heater repairs. Homeowners may apply for urgent repair funding if they meet the program’s income guidelines.

In addition to these repair and improvement funds, over $64,000 will be sent to Allen Community Outreach in order to provide rent and utility assistance to qualifying Allen residents.
