A change to Allen’s land development code is serving up the potential for new dining options.
Allen City Council approved an amendment allowing food trucks to operate at permitted sites and food truck parks. Previously, food trucks were only allowed to operate in Allen as part of a special event, such as Allen USA.
Under the new guidelines, existing businesses, shopping centers, offices and city parks may host a food truck site on their properties. Trucks must receive written consent from the property owner or manager, operate within the property’s established business hours, and provide access to nearby restroom facilities. To operate within 300 feet of an existing restaurant, food truck operators must obtain the restaurant’s consent.
The change also allows dedicated food truck parks to operate in certain zoning districts. These permanent spaces must offer public restrooms, on-site electricity and improved parking surfaces.
All food trucks must adhere to health and safety ordinances and apply for annual permits.
