[ARCHIVED] Library Designated As A Family Place Library

Allen Public Library

The Allen Public Library is one of 12 libraries in the state of Texas awarded with a 2018 Family Place LibrariesTM Project grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. This project was initiated to help public libraries address early learning needs with the goal of ensuring that all children begin school ready and able to learn.

This Spring, two Library staff members will receive training at the Middle Country Public Library in Centereach, New York. During the multi-day institute, they will learn the core elements of the Family Place LibrariesTM model and develop a plan to implement those principles. After attending the workshop, the Library will receive a $6000 grant to assist in launching a successful Family Place LibrariesTM location. The Library will host workshops for young children (ages 0-3) with their caregivers, create a parenting collection, enhance the interactive play space in the Children’s Library, and cultivate and continue community partnerships with local organizations serving young children and their families.

Library staff members look forward to incorporating the Family Place LibrariesTM model to serve our youngest citizens and including those concepts in the Library building expansion project approved by voters in May 2016.
