[ARCHIVED] Allen PD, Allen ISD Launch Internship Program

APD Internship Program

A new partnership will give select Allen ISD students an unprecedented look inside the Allen Police Department.

On Nov. 28, Allen City Council approved an interlocal agreement allowing Allen Police and Allen Independent School District to launch a law enforcement internship. The internship will be open to select seniors enrolled in Allen High School’s law enforcement program.

By the time they reach senior year, students in the law enforcement program have received an overview of courts, corrections, fire, police and private security. During their junior year, three students can earn their basic telecommunication certification. Seniors who quality for the internship program will rotate through Allen’s public safety communication center and crime lab, the City of Allen Municipal Court, and two of the courts at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney.

“The internship program demonstrates our commitment to both our community’s students and our future law enforcement professionals,” said Ken Myers, Deputy Chief of Police. “We’re excited to facilitate this continued partnership between Allen ISD and the City of Allen.”

Interested seniors must complete an application process including a review of attendance, academics and disciplinary actions. Teacher references and a research paper will also be required.
