The City of Allen is joining communities nationwide in lowering its flags in honor of John Glenn. The astronaut, fighter pilot and former U.S. Senator died on Dec. 8 at the age of 95. Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth and later became the oldest man in space.
President Obama has ordered the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
All other flags should be flown at half-staff for the same period of time since no flag is permitted to fly higher than the United States flag. All agencies, political subdivisions, and public and private entities are encouraged to follow this order and fly all flags at half-staff during this period
