Allen’s thriving trail system is about to get even bigger.
Council members have approved a $59,000 contract to design the Cottonwood/Heritage Village Hike and Bike Trail Connection. The trail will link Hydrous Wakeboard Park, Allen Senior Recreation Center and the Allen Heritage Village.
The 12’-wide trail will include a pedestrian bridge spanning a wooded area between Allen Senior Recreation Center (ASRC) and Hydrous. The concept plan also calls for a patio deck, small shelter with picnic tables, and a raised vegetable garden bed to be built near ASRC.
Construction will be funded by the Allen Community Development Corporation (CDC) and a matching grant of $357,500 from the Collin County Parks and Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program. The CDC will also cover the cost of the design contract through dedicated trail construction funds.
