School’s out and we’re ready with an arsenal of ideas. Check out our list of activities to help fill out your summer schedule.

1. Play in the splash pad at Celebration Park. Just remember, the park is closed on Wednesdays for maintenance.

2. Kick back with a good book. Allen Public Library’s summer reading program runs June 4-Aug. 7.

3. Learn a new skill. Take a songwriting class, get tennis lessons or learn archery by enrolling in one of the many Parks & Recreation summer programs.

4. Expand your family…with a new pet from the Allen Animal Shelter. Without demanding school schedules, summer is the perfect time to teach kids responsible pet ownership.

5. Take a dip at Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium. The natatorium offers swim classes, open swim times and special events, such as dive-in movies.

6. Meet some firefighters. Grab some friends and set up a group tour of one of Allen’s fire departments.

7. Find a new favorite restaurant. Scout the Allen Convention and Visitor’s Bureau restaurant directory to get out of your dining rut.

8. Send ‘em to camp. With options ranging from fishing skills to 3D game design, kids will meet new friends while learning new skills.

9. Chill out at the Allen Community Ice Rink. Whether you’re looking for open skate times or need formal lessons, you’ll find plenty of opportunities here.

10. Catch a free flick. Visit Allen Public Library for free summer films. June’s theme: “Exercise Your Mind”

11. Treat the family to a free evening of music, fun and fireworks. Mark your calendars for this year’s Market Street Allen USA celebration on June 25.

12. Take a public art tour. Check out Allen’s collection of public art, ranging from sculptures to paintings to a brand new bridge.

13. Work on your swing. The Courses at Watters Creek offers golf lessons for ages six and up.

14. Get extreme. Tony Hawk wannabes have access to the largest outdoor skate park in Texas at The Edge. Just make sure they bring a helmet.

15. Throw a party. Celebrate summer birthdays or family reunions at a park or recreation center.
