Allen Earns High Marks for Safety, Response Times

Allen moved up a spot in an annual list of the safest cities in the nation. The city ranked 13th in the 2015 CQ Press list and boasts the highest ranking in Texas.

CQ Press crime rates are tabulated using data on murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft collected by the FBI, representing cities with a population of 75,000 or more. Allen was ranked 14th in 2014.

In May, Allen was also included in the SafeWise List of the 50 Safest Cities in Texas. The city earned the 21st spot for low property and violent crime rates. Authors considered the ranking “impressive when you consider that there are nearly 100,000 people living in Allen.” Most cities included in the rankings had populations under 30,000.

Allen also boasts one of the shortest 911 response times in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to a May 2015 report by KTVT/CBS 11. On average, Allen Police arrive within four minutes and seventeen seconds during a “priority-one” emergency—the 3rd fastest response in the metroplex. The department has shaved 1:48 off the average response time since 2010.

“Despite ongoing growth, our police department has kept Allen one of the safest cities in the nation,” said Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey. “These accolades are another reminder of the dedication and outstanding service provided by our officers and civilian staff.”
