A Texas District Court has approved a proposal submitted by the Arts Center of North Texas for the disbursement of approximately $2,300,000 in donations from private sources. The proposal resulted from an agreement among the Arts Center, the Texas Attorney General, and the three member cities of the Arts Center: Plano, Frisco and Allen.
The proposal confirmed by the court calls for the funds to be distributed evenly among the cities and used for arts and culture. The law requires that the funds be used for purposes similar to the original intent for which they were donated.
The City of Allen will use the funds toward a multiyear collaborative programming initiative of the Allen Arts Alliance Association that will engage students, local art organizations and the Allen Public Library in programs that connect the arts and sciences. In addition, funding will be provided to the civic ballet, symphony, community theater, heritage guild, public art program, and for art education programs through the Friends of the Library.
As part of the court’s order, 124 acres of donated land near Custer Parkway and The Sam Rayburn Tollway that was designated for the Arts Center will be returned to its original owner.
