Beginning in August, cartons will be accepted in Allen's single stream recycling bins.
Now that more and more consumers are purchasing products in cartons for convenience, the City of Allen will partner with CWD and the Carton Council to be able to accept cartons in the existing curbside recycling program.
Examples of cartons that are able to enter the recycling stream are ones that used to contain juice, milk, cream, soy milk, soup and broth, egg substitute, and wine. There are no requirements to rinse your cartons. As long as the carton is empty, it is okay to place it in your blue polycart.
In Allen, the results of adding cartons to the list of curbside recyclable materials will decrease the amount of waste sent to the landfill as well as provide an ideal material for recycling into tissues, napkins and other paper products.
