Windridge Park Dedication and Movie

Friday, May 4, 2018

Neighborhood residents are invited to the Windridge Park public art and park dedication ceremony followed by a movie at the park!

The Allen Parks and Recreation Department will host a Windridge Park public art and park dedication ceremony and movie at the park for neighborhood residents from 6:30-10 p.m. on Friday, May 4, which will include games, crafts and food.

The recently completed neighborhood pocket park was built in Allen on the site of two neighboring home lots purchased by the City after one burned down and the other succumbed to age. The park includes a playground structure, swing set, covered pavilion and basketball hoop.

During Windridge Park’s initial planning stage, a unique community event termed a “pop-up park” was held on-site to allow the neighborhood’s residents to talk with city officials and provide feedback about features they wanted at the park and to help them begin to see the site as a community gathering point. At the pop-up park, yard games and inflatable play structures were placed throughout the empty lots, and hotdogs and popcorn were provided to residents. Allen’s park planners engaged adults and children alike to provide feedback by offering paper for adults to write down and children to draw ideas for the park’s development.

In addition, public art is also being incorporated in the park, as the City of Allen selected seasoned Texas artist Jon David DeLeon of San Antonio to create a mural on the seating wall that borders the Windridge Park playground.
