Allen Fire Department’s Junior Fire Academy teaches 5th and 6th grade students what it takes to be an Allen firefighter. Our mission is to instill camaraderie, servant leadership, teamwork, self-confidence, pride and respect for others. Students will learn:
• Emergency medical care/first aid
• Rope knotting
• How to use a real fire hose
• Proper use of a fire extinguisher
• How to find their way through a maze wearing tinted smoke lenses
• And much, much more!
CLASS SCHEDULEThe academy is a week-long commitment. Classes take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students are not permitted to come in late or leave early due to other camp activities or registrations.
WHAT TO BRINGStudents should bring their own snacks, lunch and beverages. Water will be available; breaks are taken throughout the day. Each student should also bring a small towel, sunscreen and insect repellent.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTSStudents must reside in Allen and must be in 5th or 6th grade. Students will be selected in order that all paperwork is received. Class sizes are limited per session. The Junior Fire Academy is a hands-on, physically-active program. Please give instructors advance notice of a student's limitations.

All medical emergencies will be treated as such and will be attended to by Allen Fire Department as deemed necessary by academy personnel, instructors or coordinators.
By signing below, I give permission for my son/daughter to participate in Allen Junior Fire Academy.
I understand that my son / daughter will attend classes supervised by Allen Fire Department personnel. I also understand that the supervised classes will consist of both educational and practical material and that some of the material in the classes may be graphic due to the nature of the curriculum or class topic. I have read the rules of conduct and dress code and understand that both must be adhered to at all times.
I also hereby authorize photographs and or video documentation to be taken of my son / daughter. Photographs and or videos may be used to promote or highlight the Allen Fire Department's Junior Fire Academy, and may be used in the media.
I understand that fire service is, by its nature, inherently dangerous. However, I also understand that my child will not be placed in any hazardous condition or atmosphere that would compromise his/her health or safety. I give my child permission to participate in all programs and activities conducted by Allen Fire Department, including field trips.
If I cannot be reached in the case of an emergency, I hereby give my permission to the physician selected by the City of Allen Fire Department's authorized staff member to hospitalize and secure proper medical care for my child.
By signing below, I fully understand and my son/daughter fully understands that participation and transportation during the Allen Fire Department’s Junior Fire Academy could result in bodily injury, serious bodily injury, illness or death. Although I fully appreciate these risks, I desire my child to participate without regard of the consequences. I, the undersigned, assume full and complete responsibility for any accident, injury or illness and or activity that may occur to my child as a result of their participation. I agree to and hereby release, hold harmless, and waive all claims that I, or my child may have against the Allen Fire Department, City of Allen, or any of its employees, agents, sponsors, representatives, or volunteers from all legal injury, illness or death and or activities arising from or connected in any manner to my child’s participation in the Allen Fire Department’s Junior Fire Academy, including but not limited to liability, damages, legal fees and or costs caused by or related to the negligence or the intentional act of the Allen Fire Department, City of Allen, or anyone of its employees, agents, sponsors, representatives, or volunteers in whole or in part. This release shall be binding on my heirs, legatees, administrates, and assigns.
