Collection Day & Service Guidelines

The City of Allen offers service to residents for the collection of yard trimmings, which are picked up weekly on your designated trash day. Allen composts all yard waste for beneficial use. The city bans grass clippings and organic lawn materials from the landfill. Free compost is seasonally available to residents at the City of Allen Jupiter Road Compost Site.
  • Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day.
  • Use biodegradable paper lawn bags that can be purchased at local grocery and home improvement stores.
  • Include bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves, plant materials, and small cuttings.
  • No plastic bags will be collected.
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of fifteen (15) yard waste bags for residential customers.
  • Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4’ bundles, weighing no more than 40 lbs., secured with biodegradable string, twine or rope for collection.
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of seven* (7) bundles. *Excessive amounts may require special scheduling; restrictions apply, see guidelines under Bulk Yard Trimming and Alternative Disposal Options.
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes need to be empty, flattened, stacked, and bound with string, twine or rope.
  • Place bundles and bags no closer than two feet from polycarts.
  • Yard waste bags and bundles should be placed within two feet of the edge of the curb or alleyway and away from obstacles such as gas meters, electrical and cable boxes.
