Volunteer With Us!
Summer VolunTeens
In order to volunteer, you must meet the following age requirements:
- Teens must be at least 13 years old as of June 1
- Teens age 18 must still be in high school

Important dates to remember:
  • May 1 - Applications become available online
  • May 8 - Last day to apply
  • May 23 - Last day of job notification (We will email you by this date at the latest.)

The Allen Public Library welcomes the help of VolunTeens by offering a variety of volunteer opportunities. Due to the number of applicants, we cannot accept every teen who applies. Candidates will be considered based on prior experience, qualifications and compatibility with library needs.

VolunTeen Guidelines
  • Arrive on time and stay until the end of your shift
  • Dress for the job - "School dress code"
  • No inappropriate behavior or cell phones
  • Leave siblings and friends behind
  • If you need a break, let someone know
  • You may bring water with a lid and a book for quiet times
  • Represent the library by observing library rules & procedures
  • Sign in & out for each shift (You will not receive credit for hours worked if you do not sign in & out)
  • Check your email – it’s our best way to reach you
  • Contact the library by phone, not email, if unable to come at your assigned time

VolunTeens can serve the Library in a number of ways.

  • Story Time Aides assist with story times on a set, weekly basis.
  • Children’s Department Aides work in the staff areas, prepping for programs and helping keep the Children’s Library orderly.
  • Summer Reading Club Aides sign up young patrons for the Summer Reading Club program.
  • Special Event Aides work directly with the staff and patrons in a variety of programs like Lego Club, Crafternoon and Game Day.
  • Adult Services Aides work with the Adult Library staff.
