Trench Rescue Operations
The Allen Fire Department is equipped and trained for trench collapse emergencies. Construction within the City of Allen and surrounding areas combined with the soil content creates a high possibility of trench collapse. The Allen Fire Department can respond with the latest in equipment to safely shore up the trench walls, and Fire Department personnel are trained trench rescue technicians, prepared to remove trapped victims from a trench collapse.

The equipment used for trench rescue includes pneumatic shores, air quality detectors, “snake” cameras used to look for small void spaces, a confined space communication system, air circulating equipment and much more.

Training required for trench rescue technician level certification involves several hours of classroom and field practice. The training involves properly approaching, shoring and removing victims from several different types of trenches.
