The Animal Shelter welcomes volunteers who would like to assist in the day-to-day care of the animals. An average of 50 volunteers donate their time at the shelter per month. The requirements for volunteers are as follows:
- Volunteers age 10 will be required to be accompanied by a parent until age 14. After age 14, the parent supervision requirement will be determined by the shelter personnel.
- Parents are required to stay within a reasonable distance of their youth volunteers.
- One parent per youth volunteer.
- Parents will be required to attend a volunteer training course with youth volunteer.
- Parent and adult volunteers must pass a background check.
- All new volunteers are required to attend a 2 hour volunteer training class that includes classroom and hands-on training.
Applications are available at the Animal Shelter. Youth volunteer applications are available at designated dates and are restricted to a set number of positions. Application dates and training dates are announced in the Animal Shelter news posted on the division home page.
