The Planning and Development Department is charged with crafting a vision for Allen's future, a master plan that guides the development and growth of the community. Planning and Development is committed to creating a high quality, sustainable community by establishing and managing the standards for development. Specific activities include short and long term planning for commercial and residential development, oversight of the Geographical Information System, coordination of the Capital Improvement Program, administration of the Community Development Block Grant which revitalizes and maintains the value of older neighborhoods, and zoning and code compliance. The department also produces an annual demographics guide called Facts & Figures
