February is Burn Awareness Month and the Allen Fire Department wants to remind our community that fire is just one cause of burn injuries — serious injuries can be suffered by hot liquids, heating appliances, hot pots and pans, electrical currents and chemicals such as gasoline. Each year in the United States, 1.1 million burn injuries require medical attention and approximately 4,500 people die. Up to 10,000 people die every year in the U.S. from burn-related infections.
There is a great deal that can be done around the home to minimize the risk of burn injuries in our everyday lives. Please review this information and practice the safety tips provided. Contact the Public Education Office at 214.509.4413 for more information.
Be sure to check the Public Education Safety web page for information on a variety of fire and life safety issues. The Home Safety Council also provides a wealth of safety information, family and children's activities on related issues through out the year. A new feature on the Home Safety Council's website includes a virtual home safety tour. This is a great way to safeguard all aspects of your home. Children will enjoy the interactive tour while learning important information.
