The Water Conservation and Drought Contingency and Water Emergency Response Plan was recently amended to incorporate the current Stage 3 water restriction of twice a month watering. Previously Stage 3 water restrictions included once a week watering from April 1 to October 1. Upon request by North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Board late March, member cities were asked to extend the Stage 3 seasonal watering schedule of twice a month through the summer months which required an update of the ordinance.
Also as part of the change, a provision was added to allow for hand-held watering of lawns for up to two hours on any day of the week provided there is no excess run-off. The ordinance already included the ability to water foundations, shrubs, and trees for up to two hours on any day by hand held hose, a soaker hose, or a dedicated zone using a drip irrigation system. Now lawns are included in this exception. The new provision is consistent with several other NTMWD member cities.
Since lake levels, weather patterns and the related drought impact will be closely monitored and conditions might prompt further recommendations or movement to Stage 4 water restrictions, the watering schedule and map will be released online from month to month. The monthly update will be posted at CityOfAllen.org/WateringMap.
