The exhibit explores the familiar subject of the human face, and takes it to unexpected places, through application of color and the manipulation of mediums, creating both recognizable subjects and completely abstract interpretations.
Ms. Fruehan is best known for her distinctive bold faces conveyed through various mediums including oils, acrylics and resins applied to canvas, wood and Lucite. She is primarily self-taught, and her work lends itself to a synthesis of Neo-Expressionism and Pop Art, frequently altering a recognizable subject into something unique by utilizing vivid colors, or by completely distorting the form into an abstract interpretation.
