Yard Waste Collection / Compost Program

Collection Day & Service Guidelines
The City of Allen collects yard waste from residents on their designated trash days. All yard waste is composted. Residents may pick up free bags of compost at the Jupiter Road Compost Site (510 S. Jupiter Road). Grass clippings and other organic lawn materials are banned from the landfill.
  • Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day, at least two feet away from trash carts.
  • Use biodegradable paper lawn bags, available at local grocery and home improvement stores. No plastic bags will be collected.
  • Grass clippings, leaves, plant materials and small cuttings must be bagged.
Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4-foot bundles, weighing no more than 40 lbs. Secure with biodegradable string, twine or rope.
  • The City will not collect more than seven bundles or fifteen yard waste bags per week. For excessive yard waste, see guidelines for Large Loose Brush Collection or Alternative Yard Waste Disposal.
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes must be empty, flattened and stacked. Secure them with biodegradable string, twine, or rope.
  • Dirt, gravel, rock, concrete and sod will not be collected.
  • Yard waste bags must placed within two feet of the curb. (See examples below.)
