Overdrive using an iPod

If you have an iPod touch, please see Overdrive for iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. For all other iPods, the guide below will help you get started.

Get the OverDrive app

Install OverDrive's desktop app for Windows or Mac on your computer. You'll need this free application to download audiobooks to your computer and transfer them to your iPod.

How to Borrow titles and enjoy

  1. Open Allen Public Library's OverDrive website on your computer, and log in with the 14-digit number on the back of your library card (no spaces). Your PIN is the last 4 digits of the phone number you used to sign up for your card.
  2. Find an available title and click Borrow.  Or, click the title's jacket to open to its details page (where you can read a description, borrow the title, listen to a sample, and more).
  3. If you borrow a title from its details page, the Borrow button will change to show options for the easiest way to enjoy the title on your device. In this case, you will be adding the title to OverDrive's desktop app.
  4. Go to you Loans page (under My Account > Loans) to see all your options for borrowed titles.
  5. Plug your iPod into your computer. Then, open OverDrive's desktop app, select the downloaded audiobook, and click Transfer. Follow the on-screen prompts to transfer it to your iPod.

Once it has transferred, you can listen to it just like any other audio file on your iPod. By default, you can find MP3 audiobooks under "Music" on your iPod.
